Sleep On It?

My husband and I got married young. We were 23, filled with excitement
and apprehension, and many people offered us advice on how to make our
marriage work. One key piece of advice we got over and over again was,
"Never go to bed angry."

Welllllll...that's a nice theory and all, but puh-leeze! We found that
the very reason we dig in our heels and argue even more strenuously for
our position is because we are either tired or hungry. So we came up
with a new rule: When we find ourselves arguing we first look at the
clock to see how long its been since we've eaten. Then we check to see
how late it is. Usually a sandwich and a soft pillow is really all we
need for him to see the error of his ways....I mean, for us to reach
consensus.

Usually by the next morning, we wake up and wonder what we were arguing
about.

It's worked for us for almost 14 years.
